Madelynn “Madi” Hanline, a 7th grade student at Southern Middle School, was the winner of the middle school division at The First Lady's Art Gallery Fall Student Artwork Exhibition.  Maryland’s First Lady, Yumi Hogan, presented the student artwork exhibition at the House of Delegates Gallery Space in Annapolis, on December 4, 2017, where works of art from students all over the state of Maryland were displayed. There were three jurors who rated the art and decided the winner in each category: Elementary, Middle, and High School. Madi's piece was referred by her art teacher, Alyssa Rodeheaver.  Madi's artwork was a colored pencil and marker drawing based on her favorite musical, Hamilton.  It was titled "The Story of Tonight".
